Have you ever felt like you didn’t know where to turn, maybe you have so much to do, you don’t know what to do first? Or maybe sometimes you just don’t know what to do next to move forward in your business. And you see successful people all around you who seem to know exactly what they are doing.

Overwhelm is normal, even some of the most successful entrepreneurs feel like this occasionally. You are not alone.

I think that this time of year we can get more overwhelmed than usual too, with all the extra shopping and preparation that has to be done in time for Christmas.

I want to share with you what I do when I feel overwhelmed.

The first thing is to be able to recognise that you feel this way and to know that you need to do something about it.

Next, step away from whatever it is that you are struggling with, whether it be a specific task or your huge to-do list that is making you feel anxious. Maybe you need to come up with an idea and you can’t get any inspiration at all.

You won’t function well if you are not in a good frame of mind, so it will not be wasted time to step away for a while.

Sometimes an hour out will be enough, sometimes you may need longer.

Some of the things I find really beneficial are;

A good night’s sleep – things always seem clearer the next day.

Reading from an inspirational book.

Watching a good film.

Going for a long walk and clearing my head.

Sitting quietly and just focussing on my breathing and nothing else. I watched a You Tube video this week and found out about a breathing technique where you breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds and breathe out for 8 seconds. It really worked and helped me to fee really relaxed.  You can view the full talk here

I know I go on and on about affirmations, but that’s because I believe in them. They always save me when I’m feeling overwhelmed. I either just read through all my affirmations on my phone, or I use my trusted favourite “All is well with me – everything is working out for my highest good”

Now, when you are feeling overwhelmed, you may be thinking that it’s going to take a mountain of work to achieve the task in hand, or to discover which way to turn next.This is where I have discovered that its the smallest of steps here that can lead you in the right direction and change your mood and your thinking almost instantly.

Once you have taken a break and put yourself into a better vibration by using one of the methods above, or whatever works for you, you will find that you will be inspired to do something. It doesn’t matter how small an action it is, but it will be a step in the right direction. One step is all you need to get you back on track. My life revolves around baby steps. I find that with a family I have learnt how to make use of small pockets of time, so I know that if I fill all the pockets with a baby step that is taking me in the direction of my goals, then I’m on the right track.

Hope this helps.

See you all soon
